Diastasis recti is a separation or widening of the abdominal muscles that often happens during pregnancy as the body makes room for a growing baby. For many women, it improves over time, but for others, the gap, doming, weakness, or disconnected feeling can linger.
Diastasis recti is not just about the size of the gap. What matters most is how your core manages pressure, tension, breath, and movement. You may notice coning or doming when sitting up, lifting, exercising, or getting out of bed. You may also feel weak through your middle, unsupported, or unsure which exercises are safe.
Pelvic floor physical therapy can help retrain the core system, including the diaphragm, deep abdominals, pelvic floor, and back muscles. Care may include breath work, pressure management, core coordination, strength progression, and movement strategies for real life.
The goal is not just to “close the gap.” The goal is to help your core feel strong, responsive, and trustworthy again.
